Boozhoo and welcome to our blog! We are educators on a professional learning journey hoping to deepen our knowledge of the local indigenous language and culture that surrounds our schools.
We work in the Lambton Kent District School Board and are fortunate to have four First Nations in our school district. (Aamjiwnaang First Nation, Delaware Nation, Kettle and Stony Point First Nation, and Walpole Island (Bkejwanong) First Nation). Our focus is connecting with members of the Aamjiwnaang First Nation and Walpole (Bkejwanong) First Nation because we teach at schools located close to these two First Nation communities.
Allie teaches Grade 6, at A.A. Wright Public School, Wallaceburg located near Walpole (Bkejwanong) First Nation
Chantima and Jen teach Grade 2, at P.E.McGibbon Public School, Sarnia located near Aamjiwnaang First Nation
Gretchen is an Indigenous Education Special Projects Teacher for LKDSB
On this blog we hope to share artefacts, resources and our personal reflections along the way. We hope that sharing our journey will help inspire other educators to connect with their local indigenous communities in order to take steps toward fulfilling the TRC Calls to Action (62, 63 for education).
Gretchen, Allie, Chantima & Jen
